Shen Sha (Spiritual Indicators)

A system of auspicious and inauspicious information calculated through specific rules in Bazi destiny analysis, including over ten types of Spiritual Indicators such as Noble Star, Post Horse, and Peach Blossom, used to supplement chart analysis.

What Are Shen Sha?

Shen Sha (Spiritual Indicators) is an important auxiliary system in Bazi destiny analysis. Through specific Stem-Branch calculation rules, combinations of stems and branches with special symbolic meanings are identified from the chart — called "Shen" (auspicious stars) and "Sha" (inauspicious stars). Shen Sha provide an additional layer of auspicious and inauspicious information for chart analysis.

Calculation Methods for Shen Sha

There are two main methods for calculating Shen Sha:

  1. By Year Branch: Using the Earthly Branch of the birth year as the reference, calculate the corresponding Shen Sha Branch for that year branch
  2. By Day Branch: Using the Day Pillar's Earthly Branch as the reference (some Shen Sha, such as the Heavenly Yi Noble Star, use the Day Stem as reference)

Principles for Using Shen Sha

Shen Sha are auxiliary tools for destiny analysis, not the main framework:

  1. Chart Structure first, Shen Sha second: First examine the chart structure and Useful God, then use Shen Sha to supplement the details
  2. Shen Sha must land on solid ground: A Shen Sha is truly effective only when it falls on a strong Stem or Branch (Shen Sha in Emptiness/Void are greatly weakened)
  3. Consider practical context: The auspicious or inauspicious manifestation of Shen Sha must also be evaluated together with Luck Cycles and Annual Luck to determine timing
