What Are Bi Jie?
Bi Jie is the collective term for Peer (Bi Jian) and Rival (Jie Cai), encompassing all Heavenly Stems and Hidden Stems within Earthly Branches that share the same Five Element as the Day Master. Bi Jie represents kindred forces of the Day Master — they can be allies that support the Day Master, or competitors that contend for the Wealth star.
- Peer (Bi Jian): Same Five Element, same yin-yang (fraternal, harmonious type)
- Rival (Jie Cai): Same Five Element, different yin-yang (fraternal-competitive type, more proactive)

Positive: Strong Day Master with Roots
When Bi Jie is abundant in the chart, the Day Master is deeply rooted and luxuriant, with abundant self-energy, suitable for shouldering heavy responsibilities. Outside of Follow-Weak structures, this confers a certain degree of competitiveness.
Negative: Bi Jie Seizes Wealth
When Bi Jie is plentiful but the Wealth star is weak, this is called "Bi Jie Seizing Wealth" — numerous kindred elements carve up the limited Wealth star, causing wealth fortunes to suffer: money is hard to earn and even harder to keep. Additionally, excessive Bi Jie may harm the wife (in male charts) — because Direct Wealth (the wife) is seized by Bi Jie.
