Wealth Stars (Cai Cai)

The collective term for Direct Wealth and Indirect Wealth, representing all wealth forces that the Day Master controls, including both fixed income and unexpected gains.

What Are Cai Cai?

Cai Cai is the collective term for Direct Wealth (Zheng Cai) and Indirect Wealth (Pian Cai), encompassing all Heavenly Stems and Hidden Stems within Earthly Branches that are controlled by the Day Master (what "I" control). They represent the wealth resources that the Day Master can command.

  • Direct Wealth (Zheng Cai): Self controls, different yin-yang (stable, fixed wealth)
  • Indirect Wealth (Pian Cai): Self controls, same yin-yang (liquid, unexpected wealth)

Shared Symbolism of Cai Cai

  • Wealth resources: All material wealth, income sources, and disposable assets
  • Six Relations: The wife (Direct Wealth) and father (Indirect Wealth) for male charts
  • Controllable energy: What the Day Master controls represents things the native has the capacity to command and utilize

Traits of Flourishing Cai Cai

In charts where Cai Cai flourishes, the native typically:

  • Enjoys prosperous wealth fortune, skilled at financial management and business
  • Lives a materially abundant life, values practical interests
  • However, if the Day Master is weak while Wealth is strong, this becomes "Much Wealth, Weak Body" (Cai Duo Shen Ruo) — the native is burdened rather than blessed by wealth

Core Functions of Cai Cai

  1. Generating Officer (Guan): Cai Cai generates Officer/Sha (Guan Sha — what Self controls further generates what controls Self), forming the "Wealth Generating Officer" work-production pathway — wealth brings social status
  2. Controlling Seal (Yin): The Wealth star controls the Seal (Yin Shou); when the Seal star is excessively strong, Wealth controlling Seal can balance the chart structure
  3. Representing resources: Cai Cai represents the external resources the Day Master can mobilize

The Problem of Flourishing Wealth with a Weak Day Master

If the chart has flourishing Cai Cai but a weak Day Master (Shen Ruo), this is called "Much Wealth, Weak Body" — the Wealth stars are abundant but the Day Master lacks the strength to bear them, leading to:

  • Money being hard to hold onto, coming quickly and leaving just as fast
  • Heavy physical pressure and burdensome affairs
  • Needing Bi Jie to assist the Day Master in shouldering the abundant Wealth

Bi Jie Seizing Wealth

When Bi Jie is abundant but the Wealth star is weak, this is called "Bi Jie Seizing Wealth" — numerous kindred elements divide and plunder the wealth source, indicating unstable wealth fortune and intense competition. In this situation, if there is Officer/Sha to control Bi Jie, the problem can be alleviated.
