What Is the Sowing & Reaping Structure?
The Sowing & Reaping Structure (Jia Se Ge) is one of the five Specialized Prosperity structures, classified as a Special Structure (Wai Ge). "Sowing & Reaping" comes from the Book of Documents — "Earth is for sowing and reaping" — representing Earth's heavy, steady quality of bearing and nurturing all things.
Conditions for formation:
- The Day Master is Wu Earth or Ji Earth
- The chart's Earthly Branches contain multiple of the four Tombs (Chen, Xu, Chou, Wei), or the Earth energy is extremely strong (born in Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei month, with multiple Earth Heavenly Stems)
- No Jia or Yi Wood in the Heavenly Stems to control Earth (or Wood is present but extremely weak)
- No Yin or Mao Wood in the Branches, or Wood is present but has been transformed through combination
Favorable and Unfavorable Elements for Sowing & Reaping
| Element | Reason | |
|---|---|---|
| Favorable | Earth | Strengthens the dominant energy |
| Favorable | Fire | Fire generates Earth, follows the momentum |
| Favorable | Metal | Earth generates Metal, channels excess (elegant energy flows) |
| Unfavorable | Wood | Controls Earth, against the momentum — breaks the structure |
| Unfavorable | Water | Earth controls Water, but excessive Water drains Earth energy (varies by situation) |
Personality Traits
Those with the Sowing & Reaping Structure typically:
- Are steady, stable, and tolerant, as Earth governs trustworthiness
- Are practical and grounded, dislike risk, and value stability
- Have natural talent in agriculture, real estate, and finance (Earth generates Metal)
- Have broad social connections and many friends, but tend to move slowly
Luck Cycles and Annual Luck
For the Sowing & Reaping Structure, Earth, Fire, and Metal cycles are favorable and bring smooth career progress. Wood cycles are unfavorable and break the structure, indicating illness or career obstacles.
Important Notes
The Sowing & Reaping Structure is relatively the hardest of the five Specialized Prosperity structures to form, as Earth energy must be exceptionally strong — the four Tombs do not always form a stable Earth Bureau. In practice, comprehensive analysis of the Heavenly Stems and Five Elements is required.
