Specialized Prosperity Structures

Charts where one Five Element is extremely dominant, and the Day Master follows this prosperous element rather than resisting it. Includes five types: Bending & Straightening (Wood), Flaming Upward (Fire), Sowing & Reaping (Earth), Following & Transforming (Metal), and Moistening Downward (Water).

What Is the Specialized Prosperity Structure?

The Specialized Prosperity Structure (Zhuan Wang Ge /) is a type of Special Structure (Wai Ge / Yi Ge), referring to charts where one Five Element (Wu Xing) is extremely dominant, and the Day Master goes along with this overwhelming force rather than opposing it. The core philosophy of Zhuan Wang is "going with the flow" (Shun Shi) — when an energy is unstoppable, the Day Master finds fortune in compliance and misfortune in resistance.

The Specialized Prosperity Structures comprise five types, each corresponding to the peak state of one of the Five Elements:

Structure NameElementPrimary Heavenly Stems
Bending & Straightening (Qu Zhi Ge)WoodJia, Yi
Flaming Upward (Yan Shang Ge)FireBing, Ding
Sowing & Reaping (Jia Se Ge)EarthWu, Ji
Following & Transforming (Cong Ge Jin)MetalGeng, Xin
Moistening Downward (Run Xia Ge)WaterRen, Gui

Qualifying Conditions for Specialized Prosperity

  1. The Day Master belongs to that element: Qu Zhi requires Jia/Yi Wood Day Master; Yan Shang requires Bing/Ding Fire Day Master, and so forth.
  2. That element is extremely strong in the chart: Earthly Branches form a Three Gathering (San Hui), Three Union (San He), or multiple occurrences of that element; Heavenly Stems reveal that element's stems.
  3. No restraining element is present: The chart lacks Heavenly Stems or Earthly Branches that can restrain that element, or such restraining forces are so negligible they can be ignored.

Favorable and Unfavorable Elements

The favorable/unfavorable logic for Specialized Prosperity charts is the opposite of ordinary structures:

  • Favorable: The element itself (same qi reinforces prosperity), the element it generates (going with the flow to drain prosperity)
  • Unfavorable: The element that restrains it (going against prosperity brings misfortune), and the element it generates — but only if the draining is excessive (moderation is needed)

Distinction Between Specialized Prosperity and Following Structures

Specialized Prosperity (where the element is strong and the Day Master belongs to the same element) differs from Following Structures (Cong Ge) (where the Day Master is weak and follows another element):

  • Specialized Prosperity: The Day Master is itself a member of the prosperous faction, using prosperity as the Useful God.
  • Following Structures (Following Wealth, Following Authority, Following Output, etc.): The Day Master is weak, completely subordinating to another element.

Both belong to the category of "Special Structures" — both need to go with the flow rather than against it.
