What Is Death (Si)?
Death (Si) is the eighth stage of the Twelve Growth Stages. It represents the state in which the Five Elements' qi has been utterly consumed. Like a person reaching the end of life, energy is fundamentally drained — it is among the weakest stages (Death and Extinction are tied as the weakest).
Life Metaphor
Death is the most honest stage among the Twelve Growth Stages. It does not urge you to try harder or paint any rosy pictures; it says only one thing: "It is over." A page turned, a story concluded. Whether you were previously an Imperial Prosperity monarch or a Decline-phase recluse, at the gate of "Death," all beings are equal.
But Death's metaphor is not tragedy — it is cleanness. Withered leaves fall not from failure but because the next season's tender shoots need space. Encountering the Death position in a chart is often not "it's finished" but rather "you can let go now." Those things you have been unwilling to release, the ones you have propped up through sheer will — in dying, they bring liberation instead.

Meaning of Death in Destiny Analysis
- Extremely weak: When the Day Master or Useful God is in the Death position, its strength is profoundly depleted and it can barely function.
- Ending of matters: When a particular Ten God resides in Death, the life domain it symbolizes (office, wealth, relationships, etc.) has entered a phase of conclusion or stagnation.
- Encountering Death in a Luck Cycle: Entering a Death-phase Luck Cycle means that some domain's energy is tending toward stasis during this period, potentially facing significant transformation or closure.
Special Note
Though this position is called "Death," within the Bazi framework it is one component of a complete energy cycle — Grave, Extinction, Conception, and Nurturing follow after it, until Growth is reached again. Thus, "Death" is not an absolute end but the prelude to energy resetting to zero in preparation for a new gestation. Chart analysis should integrate the whole picture and avoid overly pessimistic interpretation.
