What Is Sickness (Bing)?
Sickness (Bing) is the seventh stage of the Twelve Growth Stages. It represents the phase in which the Five Elements' qi enters a weakened, pathological state. Like a person reaching advanced age, vitality has been drastically reduced, the body exhibits signs of illness, and normal functional energy can no longer be maintained.
Life Metaphor
Sickness is not an enemy — it is a messenger. A high fever forces you to lie down; a bout of back pain reminds you your posture is wrong. "Sickness" is the body speaking to you in the only language it has. Among the Twelve Growth Stages, Sickness is the most readily disliked yet the most severely underestimated stage: it forcibly presses the pause button in order to stop you from drifting deeper into "Death."
Sickness's energy metaphor is "enforced pause." It is not dignified, not elegant, not in the plan — but it may just save your life. Those under Sickness often possess a special sensitivity — because they have experienced discomfort, they understand better than anyone how to care for themselves and empathize with others.

Meaning of Sickness in Destiny Analysis
- Clearly weak: The strength of a Heavenly Stem in the Sickness position is relatively weak. When the Day Master resides in Sickness, the chart is weak and requires substantial nourishing support.
- Health and body: When the Day Master or a particular Five Element is in the Sickness position within the chart, some schools link this to areas of constitutional weakness; pay attention to the health aspects corresponding to the relevant Five Element.
- Encountering Sickness in a Luck Cycle: Entering a Sickness-phase Luck Cycle is often a period of relatively high energy consumption in some domain, potentially reflecting a period of weakness in health, career, or finances.
Distinction Between Sickness and Death
The Sickness position still retains a degree of residual strength — weak but not yet extinguished. The Death position has exhausted its energy, bordering on nothingness. Among the twelve stages, Sickness is slightly stronger than Death, but both are weak positions; when the Day Master occupies either, it requires strong nourishing support.
