Ten Gods

The ten core human-affairs symbols derived from the generating and controlling relationships of the Five Elements relative to the Day Master — the essential tool for analyzing Six Relations, personality, and career in Bazi.

What Are the Ten Gods?

The Ten Gods (Shi Shen) are the ten human-affairs symbolic categories in Bazi (Eight Characters) destiny analysis, derived by taking the Day Master (Ri Yuan) as the reference point and applying the Five Elements (Wu Xing) generating (sheng) and controlling (ke) relationships to all other Heavenly Stems (and the Hidden Stems within the Earthly Branches). The Ten Gods serve as the "translation layer" of destiny analysis — they convert abstract Stems and Branches into comprehensible human language: Who is your mother? Where does your money come from? Where does your pressure originate?

Rules for Deriving the Ten Gods

Using the Day Master's Five Element as "Self" (wo), relationships with other Stems and Branches are established:

The Ten Gods and Chart Structure

The Ten Gods are not only symbolic categories for human affairs — they form the foundation for determining Chart Structure (Ge Ju). The Ten God revealed through the Month Command's (Yue Ling) Hidden Stems determines the chart's "structure" (Standard Structure / Zheng Ge), while the strength or weakness of the Day Master determines the selection of the Useful God (Yong Shen). The combinations among the Ten Gods (e.g., Output generating Wealth, Seven Killings and Seal generating each other) constitute the core Work Production (Zuo Gong) pathways of the chart.
